Welcome to Cookie, a blog for moms

In these crazy times, I've done a lot of things I've never done before: traded beans for a carton of cream, offered to buy a used men's bike for my son with toilet paper, and learned I'd need to have my temperature taken before I could pick up mail from my office.  And that was all before noon today.

And now I'm adding another first: this blog.  We are all figuring out how to be moms in this "coronaverse" and I thought it might help to try and be a resource and a touchpoint as we navigate this craziness together.

First, you should know, I don't have it all together.  My life goal yesterday was "go 24 hours without locking myself in the bathroom to cry".  Accomplished!  Second, I'm not a medical or educational expert, I'm an event planner for a non-profit.  Well technically I'm an event un-planner at the moment, which is not as fun.  Third, I believe in the power of kindness so it's important that this is a judgment-free zone.  A friend just texted "feeling guilty about your kids watching too much tv?  Press mute and turn on the captions.  Now they're reading!"  We're all just doing our best.  So we'll keep it positive.

This is intended to be a place for moms to come to share tips and wisdom, just like we've been doing our whole lives.  It wasn't the pediatrician who told me how or when to feed my babies, the best toys for teething, or what a blanket sleeper was, it was fellow moms.  I now have a 13 and and a 16 year old but recent events have made me feel like I'm back to having a newborn; not sleeping and not sure I'm doing the right thing, albeit with a little less spitup.

My tip for the day is to listen to "Everyday Positivity" with Kate Cocker.  It's an Alexa skill (can be part of your daily news briefing) or you can listen here.  Her British accent is very soothing and her sign-off is especially comforting right now.  So to quote Kate, "you got this".  More tomorrow...

Stay safe, stay sane.
